DESCRIPTION OF THE ASSIGNMENT: Preparation of a Global Environment Fund's (GEF) Full Sized Project (FSP) Proposal Entitled 'Mainstreaming Sustainable Land Management (SLM) In Rangeland Areas Of Ngamiland Productive Landscapes For Improving Livelihoods

1. Background:
This work will entail the following:
a) Baseline data collection and informational gap analysis;
b) Assessment of the capacity of different agencies to engage in
mainstreaming sustainable land managment into land use and livestock
production and implementation of other project activities;

The international consultant will support the local/regional consultants on both the two components above, ensuring that the selected data collection and analysis methods are in line with international best practices, including sampling and data analysis and interpretation procedures and process. Specifically, the international consultant will undertake the following:


  • Ensure that all sampling methodologies, data collection and analysis are in line with international best practices; 
  • Supervise the process of actual data collection, analysis and intepretation;
  • Lead the process of collating all the baseline data, and its use in refining the threat-root cause-barrier analysis; 
  • Support the identification of opportunities for addressing the barriers identified in the analysis above;
  • Lead the process of identifying project interventions, including targets and indicators;
  • Lead the formulation of the project ensuring compliance with the GEF V templates and guidelines

3. Requirements For Experience And Qualifications
  • Academic Qualifications:A Masters degree in environment! natural resource management or related field with 10 years of relevant work experience in the area of land/range management, natural resources management or an area of expertise related to sustainable land management. A PhD will be an asset.
  • Years of experience:Wide and proven experience in preparing GEF Ecosystems and biodiversity/SLM FSPs in Botswana and the region.

NOTE: Consultancy firms/companies interested in applying for this assignment are free to do so provided they: Submit a cv of only one qualified consultant and present its bid in a manner that would allow for evaluation of the bid in accordance with the evaluation criteria specified in these solicitation documents. That is, the experience required is that of the individual whose cv would have been submitted by the company rather than that of the company. In this regard, the company by submitting a cv is bidding as an individual bidder rather than a company/firm. Further, if the submitted bid wins, the ensuing contract will be between the UNDP and the company/firm, not the individual
